The firefighting and rescue services in France are organized into local fire departments. There are two types of fire brigades: the Marseille Naval Fire Battalion (Navy) and The Paris Fire Brigade (Army), which are military units that provide protection in Paris and Marseille, and the civilian fire departments organized in the rest of the country. Totally, there are around 250,000 firefighters and trained volunteers in France, 15,700 fire apparatus, and 6,894 fire departments. French people have a joke about the differences between a French fire truck and other fire trucks in the world: “Vive la difference”, which means “Long live the difference.”
Challenges regarding size
French fire trucks are different than in other countries, because of many reasons. The geography, the streets layouts, or tactics used to fight a fire reflect on the general aspect of the vehicles. A fire truck France should have a small configuration, especially when the vehicles are used in the cities. The streets are narrow and tighter than the ones in United States. Therefore, fire trucks must be designed to enter narrow places and congested areas and to allow the firefighter to access the firefighting equipment at the same time.
Customized fire trucks for France
It is important to have a customized fire apparatus that is able to reach almost any corner of the streets, especially because France is a country full of historical buildings, which must be protected, and kept away from dangerous situations. Firetruck Paris and fire truck Nice can have the smallest configuration, as these are old and historical cities, composed of many narrow streets in the city center. Volkan Fire is a producer, which manufactures and distributes both custom and commercial vehicles, depending on each country’s specifications. For instance, we custom more than 80% of the chassis for orders out of France.
